In November of
1990 a small group of kind-hearted committed citizens created the Humans
Involved in Victory over AIDS (HIV/AIDS) Committee to raise money to help
persons in the Lake Charles area who were living with AIDS. Just
one month later, In December of that year, they held the first annual
Holiday Benefit Gala and Auction. Since that time the HIV/AIDS
Committee has raised over $450,000 through their annual Benefit Gala and
Auction. These monies have helped to provide assistance with food,
medications, housing, utilities, eye and dental care, and other needed
services and assistance to hundreds of people in Southwest Louisiana who
are living with HIV and AIDS and to their families and loved ones. As of
2010, the Gala Fundraiser has transitioned to Dining Out for Life. See the Gala Page for more
information.
